A. LifeThe German Humanist, jurist, poet, historian, editor and translator Sebastian B. took the Latinized Humanist name Titio ('firebrand'), but it never stuck. Probably born on August 31, 1457, the son of an innkeeper at Strasbourg, he died in the same city on May 10, 1521. In 1485 he married Elisabeth Bürgi of Basle (seven children). He studied the artes liberales from 1475, and probably law from 1476, at the University of Basle, which had been founded in 1459. He took a baccalaureate in law in 1477/78 and a licentiate in 1484. Life and workThe German Humanist, philosopher, poet, jurist, diplomat, philologist and translator Johannes (or Johann) R. was born on January 29, 1455 at Pforzheim and died on June 30, 1522 at Stuttgart. His name was sometimes Hellenized as Kapnion (from  kapnós, 'smoke', playing on German Rauch; also Capnion/Capnio). He was the son of Georg R., a monastery official.
