Ryhiner, Heinrich

ca 1490–1553. Switzerland. Author of a description of the Peasants’ War, written in 1525 in German.

Ryhiner was born in Brugg, enrolled at the University of Basel in 1508, and is documented as burgher of Basel from 1518. In 1515, he became procurator of the episcopal court, and in 1524 scribe of the council. From 1534 to 1553, he was town clerk. In 1542, he joined the Great Council and was frequently appointed as envoy of the town.
