ca 1488–1554. Switzerland. Weaver, and member of the small council in Basel. Owner of a manuscript with a chronicle covering the years 1514 to 1541.

Ryff was not the author of the work with which he is traditionally associated, but only the possessor of the manuscript which was subsequently passed down in his family. References in the text indicate that it was started in 1529 and the writing continued until 1541.
