(Chronicle of the imprisonment of Jens Grand)

1297-1302. Denmark. The originally Latin chronicle describes in an often energetic style the captivity of Jens Grand (ca. 1260-1327), Archbishop of Lund 1289-1302, in Søborg Castle in Zealand at the behest of King Eric VI, as a retaliation for Grand's excommunication of the king. For the nearly two years of his imprisonment, Grand suffered physically but refused to succumb to the king’s demands to recognize royal authority in investiture and other matters.
