1478–1551. Switzerland. Cleric and author of a chronicle in German, covering the history of the Swiss Confederacy from the Helvetians in Roman times until 1509. The focus of his chronicle is strictly Swiss, and events in other European countries receive less attention here than in other Swiss chronicles of the time. In 1523, Brennwald became an advocate of the Reformation, but it is evident from the chronicle that it was written while he was still a Catholic.
