1450-1552. Italy. Born in Bologna into a family of very modest means, Andrea Bernardi worked as a barber during his youth, whence came his nickname “Novacula”, from the Latin word for a sharp knife or razor. In 1470, he moved to Forlì where he spent the rest of his life. There he started to write a chronicle of his times, paying special attention to the history of his adoptive city.
