1477-1534. Bavaria. Historian and early philologist. As his humanist name suggests, Aventinus was born in Abensberg, Bavaria.  He studied in Ingoldstadt, Vienna and Paris (1495-1504), and worked as private teacher to the princes of the House Wittelsbach. From 1517-1528 he was the official historiographer of Bavaria (‘bayerisch fyrstlicher geschichtsschreiber‘) and worked in Munich, Burghausen, Abensberg as well as more than 90 libraries (listed in his Hauskalender, Sämtliche Werke I,1).
