Pedro Pascual became bishop of Jaén in 1296; he was consecrated in Rome by Cardinal Matthew of Aquasparta, and in his bull of confirmation Pope Boniface VIII praises the new bishop’s erudition and character. In 1298 he was taken captive by Naṣrid troops and imprisoned in Granada.
