The work is lost. References in the Murūj and Tanbīh indicate that, not unlike the Maqālāt al-Islāmiyyīn of Abū l-Ḥasan al-Ashʿarī, it was primarily a descriptive account of various religious groups, though outside as well as inside Islam. There are no indications that it contained explicit polemic against any of them.
