We know nothing of this author other than what we can gather from his Life of Samuel of Qalamūn: that he was a monk and priest of the monastery of Qalamūn, who wrote the Life some ‘four generations’ after the saint’s death (c. 695). While a ‘generation’ is not a particularly precise measure of time (25-40 years?), we can probably date the text to the end of the 8th century or first half of the 9th century.
