Originally an Umbrian settlement, then a member of the Etruscan League of twelve cities (Liv. 9,37,12), east of Lacus Trasumenus on a rise on the right bank of the Tiber, modern Perugia. Municipium of the tribus Tromentina, regio VII (Plin. HN 3,52). Subjugated by Rome in 295 BC (Liv. 10,31,3), P. in 205 BC supplied grain and wood to Cornelius [I 71] Scipio for the planned invasion of Africa (Liv. 28,45,18). P. was the site of the bellum…
