Hill town of the  Volsci in the central Liris valley, modern Arpino (Frosinone); Roman  praefectura from 305 BC (Liv. 9,44,16), from 90 BC  municipium of the tribus Cornelia, regio I, birth place of Marius and Cicero. Simple Volscian fortifications are extant at Civita Falconiera, also a strong Roman walled circle (3 km in diameter; polygonal stonework), including a monumental gate with a pointed arch.
