German theologian and philosopher. Born Eduard Gottlob Z., Kleinbottwar (Stuttgart), 22. 1. 1814, died Stuttgart 19. 3. 1908. From 1831, studied philosophy and theology at Tübingen, doctorate 1836, 1840 habil. at the theological faculty there. 1847 appointed prof. ext. in Bern, becoming prof. ord. in theology there in 1849.
