Dutch ancient philologist. Born Leiden 1618, died Windsor 21. 2. 1689. 1641–1644 extensive travels for study in England, France and Italy. From 1646 official historian of Holland and Zeeland. 1649–1655 in the service of Queen Christina of Sweden. From 1670 in England; 1673 canon at Windsor.
