Born Walter Curt Franz Theodor Karl Alois T., Stockerau (Vienna), 22. 2. 1894, died Herzogenburg (Vienna) 3. 9. 1963. 1913–1916 studied at Hochschule für Welthandel in Vienna, 1917–1920 studied Egyptology at Univ. of Vienna; doctorate 1920, habil. 1928, 1939 prof. sup. there. 1931 assistant at the papyrus collection of the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in Vienna, 1937–1951 its director. Guest prof. at Cairo and Manchester. 1951–1959 senior lecturer in Coptic at Univ. of Manchester.
