German Egyptologist. Born Berlin 30. 6. 1869, died there 6. 7. 1934. Studied Egyptology at Tübingen and Berlin; doctorate 1892, habil. 1895, both Berlin. From 1900 prof. ext. in Egyptology, from 1907 prof. ord. at Göttingen; from 1923 prof. ord. at Berlin. 1932 full member of Preussische Akademie der Wissenschaften.

Work and influence
