Italian classical philologist. Born Cuneo 17. 9. 1892, died Muzzano 21. 8. 1961. Studied ancient history and classical philology at Turin from 1911; 1920–1922 schoolteacher at Bra (Cuneo). 1923 libera docenza in Greek literature at Turin. From 1924, prof. of Greek literature at Cagliari; 1926 prof. at Padua; until 1928 prof. at Bologna. 1928 prof. of comparative literature, specializing in ancient literature, at Turin. From 1930 prof. of Latin literature there. Member of the Accademia dei Lincei from 1954.
