French ancient historian, epigraphist and numismatist. Born Laurière (Limousin) 15. 2. 1904, died Paris 31. 5. 1985. While still at school in 1921/22, he attended the public lectures given by Paul Foucart at the Collège de France, and from 1923 also the epigraphy lectures of Maurice Holleaux (as whose student R. later saw himself [1. 7 f., 418]) at the Sorbonne.
