Poggius, Johannes Franciscus (Florentinus). Italian Humanist. Born Terranuova (Arno Valley) 11. 2. 1380, died Florence 30. 10. 1459. From 1397, studying law at Florence, graduating as a notary in 1402. In Papal service from 1403. 1414–1418 participant in the Council of Konstanz, before spending the years 1418–1423 in England. 1423–1453 secretary to Popes Martin V, Eugene IV and Nicholas V at Rome. 1453–1458 Chancellor of Florence.
