French numismatist and philologist. Born Marly-le-Roi 27. 4. 1684, died Paris 30. 8. 1782. After studying at the Collège royal de Navarre (part of the Sorbonne at Paris), worked for the French Navy from 1706 as an interpreter and translator. From 1711, secretary and administrative director (Commis des bureaux de la maison du roi) of the Navy Minister and Royal Secretary of State Jérôme de Pontchartrain. Promoted to Commis à la Police des ports. 1745 retired to private life. Continued studies of Greek numismatics. 1752…
