French palaeographer, antiquarian and theologian. Born Château de Soulage 16. 1. 1655, died Paris 21. 12. 1741. 1672 attended Corps des Cadets de Perpignan; 1673 volunteered for Regiment de Languedoc; 1675 entered the Benedictine Order. 1686/87 appointments to Bordeaux and Paris; 1694 director of the coin cabinet at the Abbey of St. Germain-des-Prés in Paris. 1698–1701 travelled to Italy. From 1719 member of Paris Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres.
