Born Neisse (Silesia) 27. 4. 1888, died Göttingen 27. 1. 1962. 1906 studied Roman law at Edinburgh, then 1906/07 classics at Berlin, 1907 at Strasbourg, from 1907/08 in Berlin. As well as ancient history, thorough studies of the ancient Near Eastern languages. 1910 doctorate at Berlin with Eduard Meyer; 1912 habil. at Münster with Otto Seeck. After deputizing at Marburg 1913/14, career interrupted by war and full-time work for the German National People’s Party (DNVP). 1921–19…
