German archaeologist. Born Paul Ferdinand J., Berlin 23. 2. 1880, died Oxford 27. 10. 1957. 1898–1906 studied at Berlin, Göttingen and Bonn, doctorate 1906 Bonn. Volunteer at the Akademisches Kunstmuseum in Würzburg; 1906/07 DAI travel bursary (to Greece and Asia Minor). 1907/08 travel to Italy. From October 1908, assistant at Archaeological Institute at Göttingen, also priv.-doz. there from 1909. 1912–1935 prof. of archaeology at Marburg. 1935 emigration to Britain.…
