Born Zittau, as Rudolph Friedrich Moriz H., 27. 7. 1808, died Berlin 5. 2. 1874. 1826–1830 studied classical philology at Leipzig, 1831 doctorate, 1837 habil., 1841 prof. ext., 1843–1851 prof. ord. in German philology, Leipzig. From 1853 prof. of German and classical philology at Berlin. 1846 full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences, 1853 of the Prussian.
