Studied at Jena from 1710. 1715–1729 deputy rector of the Gymnasium at Weimar, also administrator of the ducal library and coin collection; 1729/30 rector of the Gymnasium at Ansbach. 1730–1734 rector of the Leipzig Thomasschule. From 1734, prof. of poetry and eloquence at Göttingen, and librarian of the Univ. Library.
