Prof. of classical archaeology at Madrid 1931–1972; 1951–1972 director of the Instituto de Arqueología Rodrigo Caro at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). 1945 member of the Real Academia de la Historia; 1946 full member of the Hispanic Society of America in New York.
