Attended Hyde Abbey School, Winchester; from 1797 studies at Christ Church College, Oxford. Graduated 1804; 1831 doctorate in theology, Oxford. From 1812, Regius Prof. of Greek at Oxford; from 1831 dean of Christ Church College.
