Most important French antiquarian and archaeologist of the 18th cent. Born Paris 31. 10. 1692, died there 5. 9. 1765. 1731 elected to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, 1742 to the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres in Paris.
