A. Life and work

T. was an elegiac poet of the Augustan period (b. between 55 and 50 BC, possibly at Gabii; d. soon after 19 BC). He came from a Latin equestrian family. He worked as a poet in the circle of Valerius Messalla Corvinus. Preserved under his name is a collection of erotic elegies comprising three books and known as the Corpus Tibullianum.
