Nothing is known for certain about the life of P. [33.429]. Although the incipits and excipits of the MSS call him Augusti libertus, i.e. a freedman of Augustus (possibly meaning Tiberius) [17.310], all other information must be reconstructed from his own work. It is not impossible that his biography was fictionalized here, and there are even some internal textual references that hint as much [1.320]. Nonetheless…
