Biography

A member of the Jaʿāfira (i.e. the descendants of the Imam Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq) of Upper Egypt, he was born in Dongola. While still a child, he was sent to al-Azhar by Muḥammad al-Sharīf b. ʿAbd al-ʿĀl al-Idrīsī (q.v.), who also acted as his Sufi teacher; he was also licenced by other members of the…
